Producing World Class Pinot Noir

Sokol Blosser Vineyard
Our vineyard in the Dundee Hills

Our passion for and belief in Oregon Pinot Noir has grown over the years as we have realized what superb fruit comes from our vineyards. A difficult grape to grow and a finicky and fragile wine to make and age, Pinot Noir is both a winemaker's dream and challenge. The risk is great but so is the reward.

Mother Nature permitting, we make between one and five Pinot Noirs each year. In exceptional vintages, we make Single Block Pinot Noir in small quantities to highlight individual blocks within our estate vineyards.

Our 72-acre estate vineyards are located in the Dundee Hills, the epicenter of Oregon Pinot Noir. Famous for its iron-rich, fertile and well-drained red Jory soil, the Dundee Hills also benefit from higher elevation and warmer nighttime temperatures which prevent fog and frost. Farming is as much an art as a science. Knowing our hillsides and understanding the needs of the vines to produce great fruit are behind every decision we make. We farm organically and it makes us better, more careful farmers. During the growing season, Alex, Alison and Russ are in the vineyard as much as possible. It is never the same. It changes constantly and we need to be there to see how it is doing. Our vineyard practices are quality-driven: with low yields and extensive handwork, we get fruit with intense flavor from healthy, balanced vines. A Year in the Vineyards... About the Dundee Hills...
